As your loved one progresses through the different stages of dementia, you might be looking for local resources to help improve their quality of life. Adult day programs offer a host of benefits for both attendees and their caregivers – like the James L. West Center for Dementia Care’s West Center Day Program.
What’s an adult day program?
An adult day program provides coordinated care for disabled or elderly individuals in a safe, supervised setting outside of the home. This daytime service not only allows caregivers to take a break from their caregiving duties, but offers attendees opportunities to participate in structured activities and interact with others.
Who’s it for?
While there are many types of adult day programs, dementia-specific day programs focus on the needs of aging adults with memory loss and varying degrees of cognitive decline. For example, those who attend or utilize the West Center Day Program include:
- Adults with dementia-related disorders or diseases, such as Alzheimer’s
- Families who care for their loved ones at home
- Full-time caregivers who work during the day
Why are adult day programs important to our community?
Day programs are vital resources to families caring for loved ones with dementia as well as the community at large, allowing seniors to age at home as long as possible. They not only benefit the well-being of attendees, but often offer emotional and educational support for families and caregivers with classes, counseling and more.
