Change Your Thinking: Overgeneralization

Do you ever have negative thoughts and/or feelings? Does your attitude lean towards the negative side of things? Is the glass half full or half empty? We all have some twisted thoughts from time to time, but if these thoughts are reinforced or continue without being challenged, they will cause increased anxiety, depression, poor performance, difficulties in relationships and other undue stress in your life.

Overgeneralization: Always. Never. Everybody. People who overgeneralize using this type of language tend to get angrier than others and they often express that anger in unhealthy ways. This type of thinking and language matters because once you say something “always” happens to you, you start responding to the pattern of events instead of the one event that just happened.

This session is part of the Change Your Thinking series of programs on the caregiver mindset. Recorded sessions are 30 minutes or less in length.
